AMERICA'S NEW DRUG PROBLEM AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT
(See special quote from Donald "The Don" Trump at the bottom)
As horrific and devastating as it is, the war on illegal drugs is more like a fight between 3 year olds in the back of the daycare over the red truck compared to America's real drug problem - the drugs the doctors or drug stores sell you.
We had an old saying in college related to the dangerous plight of the U.S.: "A pill for every ill, a drug for every bug, a lotion for every motion, and a potion for every emotion." That was almost twenty years ago; yet, it grows more telling every day.
What we did not know then was the severely negative impact these drugs would have and the level that "Disease Care" would ruin the minds, health, and body of the countries most effected.
Drug advertising, drug sales representatives, and MDs have been on a well-documented rampage to make every symptom into a disease, a deadly disease. If they do not label it deadly, they label it a symptom a "normal" person does not have and certainly something "one of our safe drugs can heal."
Tragically, these "safe" drugs (safe because they are prescription or sold in stores and not sold on the street by a bad person) have become truly utilized for absolutely everything. It is tragic because the resonant effect of what has now become the ingestion of billions of pharmaceuticals is destroying lives.
It is sad because there are so many wonderful, natural ways these things can be dealt with that do not hurt or kill you. In fact, the goal of real wellness or what we call "Maximized Living" is that you do not simply feel well. You are well. You are not just symptom free. You are healthy.
If you take something as simple as an over the counter pain reliever, new studies show it doubles the risk of death (you go from two bullets in the chamber in the game of Russian Roulette instead of one!). Take a prescription painkiller and it goes to as high as five times greater of a risk of death.
Sleeping is the one that has really become big business. Seems harmless enough. Take a pill to sleep or for what is now called a "sleep disorder." Well, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday ordered all sleep disorder drugs to carry stronger warnings about their risks.
The order, which impacts medication manufactured by Marlborough, Massachusetts-based Sepracor Inc. (Nasdaq: SEPR), Mansfield, Massachusetts-headquartered Tyco Healthcare, and several other drug manufacturers, says labeling needs to include stronger language. The risks, according to the FDA, include severe allergic reactions and complex sleep-related behaviors, which may include sleep driving.
Thirteen medications are the focus of the revised labeling, including Sepracor's Lunesta, Restoril which is manufactured by Tyco Healthcare, and Sanofi-Aventis' Ambien.
"Overall prescription drug abuse has become a more important part of the nation's drug problem," said Dr. Lloyd Johnston, who runs the ongoing University of Michigan study.
Last December, the survey found that nine percent of 16- to 18-year-olds intentionally abused prescription narcotics such as Vicodin in 2006.
"The use of Oxycontin has doubled among 8th graders (12- to 14-year-olds) since 2002,"Johnston said.
Other common household drugs popularly misused included dextromethorphan (found in cough syrups).
America has a new drug problem - one that kills or injures hundreds of thousands of more people than the illegal ones and, believe it or not, ruins more lives. What seemed like a subtle thing - a little pain relief, some cough suppressant, something to take the edge off the anxiety, something to help me sleep, etc. - has become a disaster.
Not that these conditions do not hurt people badly. However, changing your lifestyle and correcting what has gone wrong in your body is the only solution available. Drugs clearly are not the answer, even when they seem like the easy, fast solution.
Our rushed, high stress lives radically over-stimulates brain activity and makes it physiologically impossible to sleep. However, the answer is not a dangerous medication, but doing something to naturally compensate for this stimulation, to get healthy, and on another note, assess your stress levels.
HOW IS THIS DONE SO YOU CAN GET SOME SLEEP THE MAXIMIZED LIVING WAY?
1. Nothing is better for this than good old-fashioned exercise.
2. A chiropractic adjustment will relieve the tension from your spinal cord and lower brain.
3. Certain supplementation
d. Stress Arrest
4. Radically lower sugar and caffeine intake. Cut them out after 12 noon.
5. Eat only meat, salads, vegetables, and healthy fats in the evening.
In closing, I looked up what one of the richest men in the world had to say on the subject of medicine. Donald "The Don" Trump wrote in his book Trump; How To Get Rich wrote, "I have come to hate (medical) doctors. I think that generally, they are a bunch of money grubbing dogs. I can tell you about countless instances when doctors have ruined people's lives. As an example, a person I am very fond of had a foot injury that I believe should have healed naturally. Instead, the doctor operated on it, fitting pins and plates into the foot. Now, after over a year of convalescence, this person is having a hard time walking. Recently, the patient saw this doctor walking on the very expensive and chic Worth Avenue in Palm Beach and spending lots of money. This is one of many bad doctors I know of. There are too many others to name. I just can't stand the bastard."
The point I look at from Mr. Trump is that the medical way is dangerous, costs a whole lot of money, and in the new "pill for every ill" world we live in, you have to ask "Is this really about my health or is it really about the money?"
