NECK PAIN: CHIRO VS. MEDICAL
Good morning and happy Friday!
A study published in 2002 from the Annals of Internal Medicine compared the effectiveness of manual therapy (performed by a Chiropractor), physical therapy (performed by a Physical Therapist), and medical care (delivered by a Medical Physician) for patients with neck pain. The success rate at 7 weeks was twice as high for the manual therapy group (68.3%) compared to the medical care group. Patients receiving manual therapy had fewer absences from work than patients receiving physical therapy or medical care for their neck pain. Manual therapy and physical therapy also resulted in statistically significant less analgesic (pain relief medication) use.
Folks there is a time and place for medication and surgery but they should be the last things on your list for neck pain as this study shows. Remember neck pain is not CAUSED from lack of a pill! There is something going on inside (usually a mechanical problem) requiring a mechanical solution. Chiropractic has been around for over 110 years! It is the 3rd largest healing profession in the world. The day of old where medical providers and chiropractors butt heads are over. We share mutual patients and co-manage with each other on a daily basis. When it comes to neck pain...see WellnessOne first!
