REDUCING DEPRESSION IN TEENS
Teenage students who received mindfulness training (a form of meditation therapy focused on exercising 'attentiveness') in school were almost half as likely to report depression related symptoms than their peers who received no such training. At a six month follow-up, these results held up. These findings were published in the medical journal "Mindfullness" in March 2013. I have long encouraged my patients to look to their spiritual side to find peace instead of reacting to stress. With my kids we pray every day to hand our worries to God and focus on the positive in life. You may want to do the same. If you are not necessarily a person of faith you can look to meditation, yoga, and breathing techniques to help you center yourself and help examine the lens in which you are viewing life.
Teens of course are NO EXCEPTION to this rule. In fact it is even more critical of a time for them to learn these techniques to aid in their development.
