Americans have shorter life expectancy and higher rates of injury and disease than citizens of other industrialized countries. This information released by the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council in January 2013 reveals a 2011 report showed that the US ranked 50th in life expectancy. In most health issues (infant mortality, teenage pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases, heart disease, chronic lung disease, disability, obesity, diabetes, drug-related deaths, homicides, injuries, and HIV/AIDS), the US is either at the bottom or near the bottom of the list of industrialized nations.
Folks, the bottom line is we need to stop asking HOW we are going to pay for our healthcare system and now question WHY we are paying for it. Pills or surgery does not equal health. Our medical system is great for covering up problems (e.g. blood pressure meds to artificially lower blood pressure), but TRUE HEALTH comes from taking care of yourself. The system can be blamed in that we only get annual physicals as recommended. It is hard to be a health care coach seeing patients only that much. On the other side of the coin is Americans generally do not take care of themselves and believe anything their medical provider tells them. I caution all of you to question your physician, chiropractor, or any other medical provider you are seeing. Ask questions and lots of them. If the provider will not spend the time to answer you then move on! Forget the drug ads and start looking for real solutions. Don't let your doctor "fix" your problem with the quick jot of a pen. This is NOT where health comes from.
