The Journal of the National Cancer Institute in June 2009 reported findings of the National Institutes of Health-AARP Diet and Health Study. Researchers analyzed the diets of 525,000 participants to determine whether there is an association between dietary fat and pancreatic cancer. This study showed that consuming fat from red meat and dairy products is associated with increased risk of pancreatic cancer (think Patrick Swayze). There was no association between plant-food fat and pancreatic cancer.
At first glance this would be a pro-vegan study however it is the trans fat that is causing the issues. It is critical if you are going to eat meat products that they are not charred (e.g. BBQ) and that oils are not heated (other than coconut oil). Trans fats and their carcinogenic properties is where meat can be harmful.
Have a blessed day!
