The iliotibial band (ITB) is a fibrous band of tissue that extends from a muscle just above your hip at the ball and socket and attaches to the outer aspect of the knee with connections to the lateral meniscus. It plays a vital role in providing stability to the knee and assisting in swinging your leg out.
Without adequate support, dropped arches in the feet can strain the knees and hips for many folks (particularly athletes) leading to a common injury known as iliotibial band syndrome.
Those suffering from ITBS will experience a feeling of tightness and pain in the side of the knee. Quite often, the severity of the pain from ITBS will cause many people to cut back or quite their exercise routines.
To help prevent further stress and pain during activity, it is best to be equipped with products that can help control excess motion and stabilize the leg.
Here at WellnessOne of Redding we have available exclusive functional orthotics from Footmaxx technologies to help correct overpronation of the food during walking and provides resistance to sideways movement of the knee and outtward swinging of the hips. Call today to set up a complimentary foot scan ($20 value) when you mention this blog!
Have a blessed weekend!
