Did you know the risk of contracting a cold, regardless of pre-existing immunity, after being exposed to cold viruses is 52% less in parents compared with those who have no children. The finding published in the July 2012 issue of the journal for the American Psychosomatic Society may be expected considering that when children get colds, the parents may develop protective antibodies against the specific viruses that cause these colds. However, the findings revealed that based on levels of antibodies to the study viruses, the lower risk of colds in parents could not be explained by pre-existing immunity. Volunteers who were parents tended to develop fewer colds irrespective of whether or not they had protective levels of antibodies. One possible explanation may be that being a parent improves regulation of immune factors (cytokines) that are triggered in response to infection. According to earlier research, cytokine responses explain the protective effects of psychological factors, such as lower stress or a positive attitude against the risk of colds.
Little did we know those snotty kids are keeping us healthier! Any parent reading that will roll their eyes however long term its the truth. Remember the "germ theory" is just that, a theory. Viruses and bacteria do have the capacity to cause illness, but only when the host is susceptible (lower immune response). Thats why one can be ill in the theater and when someone sneezes, not everyone gets sick! Think about it. And research your options for developing a great immunity. Chiropractic care has been shown to increase immune response by 48% in immune deficient individuals. It does it via neurological connections in the brain from joint receptor stimulation.
Get adjusted, take 5000 iu/day of Vitamin D3, eat well, exercise, and live a stress free or peace-full life. Thats they key to avoiding illness! Have a blessed day!
