Good morning Redding!

Many youth in our town have a prescription drug problem, particularly with popular opiates such as Vicodin, Norco, and Oxycontin. The peak risk for misusing prescription pain relievers occurs in mid-adolescence, specifically about 16 years old and earlier. Clinicians and public health professionals are prescribing more pain relievers, and research suggests an increased misuse of these drugs and increased rates of overdose deaths. Each year, 1 in 60 young people (between 12-21 years old) begin using prescription pain relievers outside the boundaries of what their doctor intended.

Be sure to do you research and become familiar with the symptoms associated with taking these medications to spot and child in trouble.  Common symptoms are elevated mood, sweat, the "shakes," moments of euphoria, drastic changes in behavior.  Even worse is if they are mixing these medications with alcohol.  Lets teach are kids that ALL drugs are bad unless a doctor has specifically prescribed them for you (and I even question some of those drugs).

Have a blessed day and keep your kids close and their friends CLOSER!
